DOG BITES

Thought you’d never need a “Dog Bite Attorney”?

Being a dog lover gives me a unique perspective in this area. A person has to be a responsible dog owner and not let their dog cause harm to person. As a dog owner, I know what should be expected of the responsible dog owner. Similar to other personal injury cases, the insurance company is typically going to either deny the bite was the owner’s fault or they are going to make a crappy offer. This is when I know to wait them out and to proceed with the case.

Most of the time there is a denial of fault or crappy offer because the insurance company does not get accurate information from the dog owner. My experience has shown me that filing a lawsuit may be the best way to get all of the facts on the table. Many times after suit is filed, very damaging facts come out during the evidence gathering process. I know how to get this information and what to look for. Dog bite law can be tricky in Oregon and I am very knowledgeable in this are so I also bring this to the table in how I handle case.

Oregon has the “one bite rule” i.e. if a dog has never bitten anyone before, then the owner can’t be responsible for a bite. However, there are exceptions to this rule. Many times a dog owner may not be accurate in their recollection if their dog has bitten. As an experienced dog bite attorney I know how to get to this information that can be crucial for getting proper compensation. Finally, I am familiar with the types of injuries that result and the medical treatment that is typically recommended to handle the injury.

Has your DOG been bitten?

You may also be entitled to compensation if your dog is injured or killed by another dog. If the dog owner knew or should have known their dog would attack, the owner can be responsible for the injury their dog caused.

I dealt with dozens of dog bite cases during my 17 years at Allstate and know how the insurance companies try to deny the responsibility of the dog owner to avoid payment to you, the injured party. I can help you sidestep their tactics and hold the owner responsible for the injury caused by their dog(s).

We all love our pets…

…and Portland certainly is a dog-lovers’ paradise. I have dogs of my own and they are truly members of our family. Still, dogs frequently bite people and cause severe damage. Dogs may bite because an irresponsible owner didn’t keep them confined or train them properly, or the dog may be in distress. Regardless of the cause, the law provides that you are entitled to compensation for injuries if a dog attacks you or a loved one.
